NORFOLK, Va. – Junior Briana Gardner of the Norfolk State bowling team earned the MEAC’s co-Bowler of the Week award on Tuesday morning when the conference office announced its weekly honors.
Gardner averaged 196.4 in five games on Saturday during the three-day Red Flash Invitational hosted by Saint Francis (Pa.). She was named to the all-tournament team after leading NSU to a 9-4 record and a runner-up finish at the tournament.
Gardner had games of 203, 211 and 215 on Saturday to help NSU finish 4-1 in traditional play. She also served as the anchor bowler for all eight Baker games between Friday and Sunday, including in the tournament final where the Spartans fell to the host Red Flash.
On the year, the Stone Mountain, Ga., native is averaging 185.3, second on the team.
It marked her second bowler of the week award this season. This week, Gardner shared the award with Ivory Miles of Bethune-Cookman. It was also NSU’s third weekly honor of the entire 2016-17 season.
NSU will not compete the next couple of weekends until heading to the James Brown Invitational hosted by Morgan State on Feb. 17-19.
