Woman stabbed to death outside hospital in Nassawadox

NASSAWADOX, Va. (AP) — Authorities say a woman was stabbed to death outside a hospital in Northampton County.

Media outlets report Northampton County Sheriff David L. Doughty Jr. says 42-year-old Shelli L. Crockett of Keller, Virginia, died after being attacked Monday morning during a domestic dispute in a parking lot outside Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox.

Fifty-eight-year-old Winston Leroy Burton of Cheriton has been charged with first-degree murder in her death.

Doughty says Crockett had just arrived to work when she was stabbed multiple times.

Hospital spokeswoman Sally Schreiber says Crockett was a member of the hospital’s environmental services team and had worked there since 2005.

The hospital was placed on lockdown for several hours.

The relationship between the victim and suspect remains unclear. It’s unknown whether Burton has an attorney.
