Spartans finish 2nd at MEAC Championship; 4 named All-MEAC

SMYRNA, Del. – Junior Ronald Korir paced four All-MEAC runners as the Spartans ran to a runner-up finish at the MEAC Cross Country Championship Saturday morning, at the Delaware State Outreach and Research Center.

NSU ended the day with 39 points, just one point behind Maryland Eastern Shore, which claimed its third consecutive MEAC title with 38 points. This is the best finish for the Spartans at the MEAC Championship since their second-place finish in 2012.

Korir earned his first All-MEAC honor when he finished in third place with a time of 25 minutes, 2.95 seconds. Also earning All-MEAC honors was sophomore Anteneh Girma, freshmen Felix Kiprotich and Festus Bett.

Girma finished in fourth with a time of 25:36.44, while Kiprotich crossed the finish line in a time of 25:51.21 to take sixth place. Bett ran a season-best time of 26:05.70, good for a ninth-place finish. Rounding out the top five for the Spartans was junior Haileyesus Demsie. He just missed his second All-MEAC honor when he placed 17th with a time of 26:53.52.

Maryland Eastern Shore’s Khali Rmidi Kinini won the men’s overall race in a time of 24:27.88.

The Spartans will travel to Earlysville, Va., on Nov. 11 to compete at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Virginia.
