NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State track and field senior Kiara Howell was named the MEAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week by the conference office on Wednesday.
Howell earned two first-place finishes and one runner-up finish at the Morgan State Legacy Meet last weekend in Baltimore, Md. Howell won the shot put and javelin throws, eclipsing her season-best marks in both events. Her top throw in the shot put went 44 feet, 10.25 inches, her best mark of the season and the second-best throw among MEAC athletes this outdoor season.
In the javelin, Howell’s best attempt traveled 135-7, also a season-best and the second-best in the conference. Her best mark of 147-7 in the hammer was good for second place at the meet and was also a personal best.
This is Howell’s first weekly MEAC honor of the season. Howell and several of her teammates will compete this week at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
