Butler Named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week

rp_primary_Jordan_Butler_vs_SCSU_7NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore forward Jordan Butler of the Norfolk State men’s basketball team was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday by the conference office. Butler tied the school’s Division I record for blocks in a game during the team’s recent trip to the 2015 Paradise Jam.

Butler tallied 13 blocks and 27 rebounds in three games last week to win the first weekly conference honor of his career and the first honor by an NSU player this season.

He tallied his first career double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds to go along with a career-high (at the time) six blocks in a victory over Washington Adventist last Tuesday. Then on Friday against Indiana State in the first game of the Paradise Jam, Butler tied the NSU D-I record with seven blocks to go along with 10 boards.

He fell one block short of tying the school record of eight but did tie former NSU great Kyle O’Quinn for the most blocks in a game in the Spartans’ D-I era.

The Spartans’ only returning post player from last year, Butler is averaging 7.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game so far in the 2015-16 campaign.
