NORFOLK, Va. – Former Norfolk State University linebacker Lynden Trail was signed to the practice squad of the NFL’s Washington Redskins on Monday.
Trail, a former three-time FCS All-American with the Spartans, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans in the spring. He made seven tackles in three preseason games with Houston before sustaining a quadriceps injury before the team’s final preseason game. He was released prior to the regular-season opener.
Trail was NSU’s first-ever Senior Bowl invitee and also participated in the NFL Scouting Combine following his senior season of 2014. The two-time Buck Buchanan Award finalist finished his NSU career with 255 total tackles, 41 for loss, with 19.5 sacks.
With Trail’s signing, NSU now has three former players under NFL contract during the season for the first time in its Division I era. Defensive back Don Carey is in his seventh season in the NFL and fifth with the Detroit Lions. He has played in each of the team’s four games so far this year. Defensive back Keenan Lambert – who, like Trail, is in his rookie season – has played in each of the first four games of the season with the Oakland Raiders.
