Roanoke woman sentenced in infant daughter’s drowning

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A Roanoke woman whose 8-month-old daughter drowned after being left unattended in a bathtub has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Media outlets report that Brittany Elizabeth Underwood was sentenced Tuesday in Roanoke Circuit Court on one count of involuntary manslaughter.

The infant was found unresponsive on Jan. 10. A coroner ruled she died by drowning and from hypothermia.

According to court records, toxicology tests showed Underwood had drugs in her system at the time.
