NSU to Host Tennis Celebration/Alumni Reunion on Friday

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State tennis program will host a tennis courts celebration/alumni reunion this Friday at 1 p.m. at the newly renovated NSU Tennis Complex. In case of inclement weather, the festivities will move to the ground floor of the Student Center.

Athletics is inviting all former Spartan tennis players to participate in a celebration of the new tennis courts. Bill Stemple, Tim Reid, D.J. Dozier, Harrison B. Wilson and Bob Dandridge will be the honored guests for the day. Donors, sponsors and this year’s NSU tennis senior class will be recognized. Donors to the tennis program will also compete in friendly matches with former and current Spartan players. Please contact assistant coach Nat Warren at to RSVP.

The tennis program will also host a golf tournament in June and is currently in the midst of a Sponsor-a-Brick campaign.

Coinciding with this Friday’s alumni reunion is the ongoing sponsorship campaign. Current renovations at the NSU Tennis Complex include a brick façade in which former players and fans can now have their names engraved on a brick that will be placed into the ground. Those who purchase a brick from this point forward will have their names put down at a later date.

Former players can engrave their name and the years they played for $100, while non-players can also get their names engraved for $200. The campaign includes a fence sponsorship for $1,000 and a scoreboard sponsorship for $5,000.

Please make all checks payable to NSUAF-Tennis and mail to the address shown on the form available here.

On June 5, the tennis program will hold a golf tournament at Honeybee Golf Course in Virginia Beach. The cost is $85 per golfer, and it includes green and cart fees, food, beverages and prizes. The 18-hole, best-ball format begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

Numerous sponsorship levels are available for the golf tournament, from $300 to sponsor a hole to $5,000 for an entitlement sponsorship. Other levels include platinum sponsor ($3,000), gold sponsor ($2,000) and cart sponsor ($1,000), all with varying perks.

All checks for the golf tournament can be made payable to NSUAF-Tennis and mailed to the address shown on the form available.
