Sentara warns of 2 in Hampton Roads posing as care workers

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Sentara Home Care Services is warning Hampton Roads residents that two women are falsely claiming to be Sentara workers in an attempt to gain entry to homes.

Sentara says in one instance, a Norfolk resident reported that the women took $400 cash from her home. A Virginia Beach couple did not let them in.

Sentara says the women appear unannounced at the doors of older residents. Once they have gained entry, one of the women keeps the resident occupied while the other looks for valuables.

Melanie Englen is director of Sentara Home Care Services. She says Sentara nurses and therapists always call first before arriving. They also wear badges with the Sentara brand and the worker’s name and photo.
